UCA News, the popular, Asia-based news service, published a series of biographical articles on Catechumens during Lent. These are inspiring stories of people responding to God’s call, often in difficult circumstances.

Since ancient times, Lent has been the season of preparation for Baptism.

We who have been baptized engage in acts of prayer, self-denial, and charity to prepare to renew our Baptismal promises at Easter. For catechumens it is the season of their final preparation to receive the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist – at the Easter Vigil.

Catechumens are treasures of the Church. Their desire to be united with Christ in his Church inspires and challenges us Christians to greater faithfulness.

Catechumens in Asia may often choose Christ in the face of misunderstanding and even opposition from those around them. Yet they seek to respond to Christ’s call. They are an inspiration to the entire Church.
