La Civiltà Cattolica Holding

Pope Francis created news again when he received the first editions of La Civiltà Cattolica in English, Spanish, French and Korean at an event on February 11 to celebrate the publication of the 4000th issue.  This distinguished journal was first published in Italian in 1850 whenPope Pius IX gave the project to the Italian Jesuits.

Over 167 years, La Civiltà Cattolica, published with the authorization of the Vatican’s Secretariat of State, has always tried to be a barometer of the thought and agenda operating in Rome. An informed understanding of how the Holy See views the Church and the world is its purpose and mission.

Now of all times is when the service of La Civiltà Cattolica is relevant and challenging – when the Church is going through an import time of reform.

The service that La Civiltà Cattolica offers is the sharing of an intellectual experience illuminated by the Christian faith grafted onto the cultural, social, economic and political life of our times.

Its contribution is serious and educated, but not elitist or for specialists. It is above all a journal sharing its own reflections not only with the Catholic World but with everyone seriously involved in the world and seeking trustworthy sources of information that inspire thought and allow personal judgment to mature.
